# Mp4 videos chopping the first second or so of video - Pi 4

I have been working on this for several days. I can get anthias to install and run on my pi4b but if I add a mp4 asset it chops the first second or so of the HD video. Here are the logs from the screenly-anthias-viewer-1 container for the asset in question:

In the meantime, you can install ffmpeg on your container by running the following commands:

```bash
cd ~/screenly
docker compose exec anthias-viewer bash

apt-get install -y --no-install-recommends ffmpeg

```

After running the commands, try running the following:

```bash
cd ~/screenly_assets

# The filename of the uploaded MP4 file is different from the original filename.
# It was renamed to <UUID>.mp4, so it's important to take note of the asset ID of your
# video via the web UI.

ffprobe [filename].mp4

```

Yes it happens with all videos. The screen is blank for a second or two and then starts that far into the video. So the videos start at like second 2 or so. Thank you!

While we are waiting on the fix for the chopping off the first few seconds of video, is there a work-around that could be done to get it working on the short term?

@anonpoet, apologies to for the wait. I’m still trying out viable long-term solutions, like switching to Qt as well. (Anthias currently uses VLC for Pi for video playback and Qt for image and web assets display).

I can’t seem to think of a quick and easy workaround yet, but you can try to add 1 to 3 seconds before videos before uploading them. [You can use ffmpeg, for instance.](https://video.stackexchange.com/questions/20717/ffmpeg-add-3-seconds-of-black-to-video-head-and-tail)

@anonpoet, still working on prerequisites and other housekeeping tasks like upgrading the codebase from Qt 5 to Qt 6. Based on my previous tests and proof of concepts, switching from VLC to Qt multimedia player solves the video chopping issue.

Good news, this was fixed. The choppy playback, including the rough first second, came from how the old player delivered video frames. The video path has since been rebuilt to use the modern media player drawing directly on the screen ([#2905](https://github.com/Screenly/Anthias/pull/2905), [#2975](https://github.com/Screenly/Anthias/pull/2975)), with frame pacing added in [#3006](https://github.com/Screenly/Anthias/pull/3006). Please update to the latest release and the chopping should be gone. Marking this as solved. If you still see it, share the video and we will take a look.
