Anthias Production Deployment Questions

Hi! Thank you very much for such a great open source product! I want to deploy a production-ready system of several screens with mini-PCs running Anthias each. I have already tested Anthias on a VPS server (x86 64bit Debian 12, 4CPU / 2GB RAM). It works, but the video seems clunky. Maybe that’s because the XFCE GUI was emulated using CPU. Haven’t got to test it on a real screen.

Before deployment (and ordering screens), I’ve got a couple of questions:

  1. Is mini-PC Intel Core i3 / 16 GB RAM / 512 GB SSD enough to run from 1080p to 4K videos? These PC will be attached to every screen using HDMI cable.

  2. We are going to have vertical stands (example). Is it possible for Anthias to ‘lock’ the video’s aspect ratio so it doesn’t stretch like this?

  3. After installing Anthias, it seems that GUI becomes locked, so I can’t open any other apps. Is it possible to install some Remote Desktop software and control the pc while Anthias is running? I need to reboot and upgrade the system remotely.

Hi @danonchik,

  1. Devices with specs close to what you’ve mentioned should be enough to run 4K videos.
  2. If configs wouldn’t cut it, modifications to the source code could be made. I’ll let you know when there are new updates.
  3. It’s by design that the GUI becomes locked, given that you’ve installed Anthias on top of Debian with GUI. Anthias is intended to be installed on top of Debian with no GUI. I haven’t tried using remote desktop or similar, but you could try installing and setting up VNC. Please let me know if you ran into some issues.
