Hi,
We’re using Anthias on a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.5, and we’re getting recurring display issues only during video playback. The Anthias splash screen and boot sequence look perfectly fine (crisp and color-accurate), but as soon as the player starts showing MP4 videos, the screen becomes partially green and pixelated, as shown in the attached images.
System Info:
-
Device Model: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.5
-
Anthias Version: master@5d44ac8
-
Free Space: 40G
-
Memory: Total: 3614 MB / Used: 769 MB / Free: 122 MB / Available: 2745 MB
-
Connection: HDMI (no adapters) + Edision HD Modulator (Hdmi to DVB-T)
-
Instaled in the SD card with Balena - not with rasp OS
Issue description:
-
The splash screen and interface look perfect on boot.
-
The issue starts only when MP4 videos begin playing (no streams, all content stored locally on the Raspberry Pi).
-
Video output turns green with digital block artifacts.
Additional observation:
Since the splash screen displays perfectly, it seems the HDMI signal is fine — suggesting the issue lies in GPU video decoding, codec settings, or hardware acceleration.
Thanks in advance for your help!
@Bruneira, it looks like the Anthias version installed on your Pi 4 is quite old. Let me check on this one.
@nicomiguelino could you please help me updating from that version?
@Bruneira, let me help you with that, Would you be able to send me your Balena device ID via direct message (not in this thread)? Direct messages are possible in this platform.
You could You can obtain your device ID by going to the web interface, going to Integrations, and copying the value of Device UUID. That way, I could do an update your device.
Otherwise, you could download the image from the v0.20.4 release page, which I could further assist you with if you wish to go down this path.
Great, @nicomiguelino ! i would send the device uuid but maybe because i just created this account, there is no direct message option for me. I suggest you send me your email.
@Bruneira, have you tried going to Profile - nicomiguelino - Anthias Forum? From there, you can click “Message
“ on the top right corner of the page.
@Bruneira, apologies for that. I changed permissions so that you’ll be able to send messages. You could try refreshing the page. Please let me know if you’re still not able to private messages (PMs).
Hi guys,
My rasp has 4GB of RAM and I noticed that if I add more videos to the platform the free RAM gets reduced more and more until the artifacts start to appear and the video eventually stops (only 17MB of free RAM).
Is the whole playlist loaded into the RAM for fast decoding?
Can we use the storage instead of the RAM so the rasp can have more memory to decode the videos?
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks
@Bruneira, only the metadata is kept in the memory (asset names, URIs, duration, playback order, etc.). Anthias only loads the metadata for all the active assets when needed. You might actually be right about this, especially if the list grows larger.
This is a valid concern. I can investigate optimizing how metadata is handled for large playlists.
As you can see I have 3.07GB of video in the CMS, and the free memory dropped down to 454MB.
This might indicate the videos are being fully stored in the RAM.
The less RAM available, the more artifacts and issues arise.
Currently, with 454MB available, the artifacts disappeared and everything play nicely.
