When I upload JPEG images in 1920x1080 or even 4K resolution, the displayed quality is quite poor. It seems that the system compresses the images after upload. What can I do to improve this?
It’s especially strange because the splash screen displaying the IP address looks perfect, but my photos appear degraded.
@jhora, let me look into this one. In the meantime, I would like to ask for the details of the display where the Raspberry Pi 5 is connected. Are you using a 1920x1080 or a 4K display?
The “CEC error” in the System Info you pasted was a red herring, and it was our bug rather than anything wrong with your device. Before 2026.08.1 that card was built on libcec, which cannot select the kernel CEC device, so the query often failed and the card showed an error whatever the display was doing. It was rewritten in 2026.08.1, and System Info now distinguishes “No CEC display detected”, which is the normal reading for a monitor that does not answer CEC, from a genuine fault.
On your actual question, this thread went quiet after you confirmed the 1920x1080 display, and that is on us. A lot has changed in how images and video are drawn since last July. If those Raspberry Pi 5 units are still in service, please upgrade to the current release and tell us whether the JPEGs still come out soft: Release 2026.08.2 · Screenly/Anthias · GitHub
