Hello,
I have installed Anthias on four Raspberry Pi 4 devices (directly via the Rasbberry Pi Imager on the SD card).
All devices only run for 2-3 days, after that they show no image or a still image.
What could be the reason for this?
Would it help to install Raspberry Pi OS instead and then Anthias?
Good news, this is much better now. A screen that ran fine for a couple of days and then showed nothing or a frozen image was usually the player’s browser dying (or a page stalling) without recovering. The player now restarts the display on its own: a stalled page can no longer freeze the screen (#3003) and the browser is respawned automatically if it crashes (#3012), both in recent releases. So it recovers by itself rather than needing a reboot every few days. Marking this as solved. If it still happens on the latest release, tell us your setup and we will help.
As a additional thing I do on my pi players is set up a cron job to reboot the units each day to freshen them up when Anthias runs. This has helped a lot.
I wouldn’t recommend that approach at all. You’re adding a lot of extra wear and tear to the SD card and introduce another failure point.
It would be good to actually find the root cause instead. We’ve added a new debug script that can pull information. If you were able to run that as things are getting slower that would hopefully help us zero in on the actual problem.
