I am recently trying to get couple of screens working in portrait mode. I got video and images working in landscape mode just fine in full screen(1920x1080).
For some reason when the video or the image is in portrait mode (1080x1920), the content is not being displayed in the right way.
Here is an example:
Unfortunately I was not successful on fixing the root cause of the issue. Thus one possible workaround is to change the re-orientation of the picture. It will depend on the screen resolution that you are using but if you flip the picture it will be displayed correctly.
I have tried this solution now and it certainly works.
It is unbelievable that there is no other solution. Rotating all my videos and photos is a lot of work…
Thank you very much!
There is a cleaner way than rotating every file. Anthias can rotate the whole screen to portrait from the settings (#2882, with Pi 4 handling added in #2971). Set the screen to portrait there and your 1080x1920 content fills it correctly, so you do not need to pre-rotate your videos and images. Marking this as solved. If portrait still does not look right on your Pi, tell us the model and we will help.
