Installed image, get a 505 error. Now what?

Hi,

I installed v0.19.4 on a Raspberry Pi 5, using the section “Using the images from the releases” in installation-options.md.

I downloaded the .zip, unzipped it, and used Balena Etcher to image it to a microSD card. I put this in my Pi, connected HDMI monitor, mouse, and keyboard, and booted it up.

I see an “Anthias by Screenly” yellow logo on purple background. Then it flickers a bit from the boot, and then a grayscale logo. Then it eventually ends up a light gray background with “Server Error 505”.

I am confused, as there is no documentation on what to do AFTER the installation. Am I supposed to press a special key to configure WiFi on boot? Can I SSH into it with some username/password that I wasn’t told about? Is there a way to get to a terminal with Ctrl-Atl-F2 or something? I tried several things, but I have had no success, and there is no direction on what SHOULD happen after install. Do I have to have it on ethernet the first time to get anywhere?

I am guessing the problem is no network, but it would be great if “next steps” were documented. I am happy to make a pull request with documentation improvements, if people can give me guidance on what how to get things working.

I am going to try the Raspberry Pi OS Lite (Bookworm) installation method next, I guess. I do not need finely tuned installation, but I would like it to actually function. BalenaOS is probably not an option for my use case.

Thank you for any advice!

@dougbot01, is your Raspberry Pi 5 connected via Wi-Fi or via Ethernet?

Hi and thank you for the reply.

I didn’t have a wired connection or a WiFi connection. I was too far to plug into ethernet.

I was assuming once the machine booted up, that there would be a way to configure the WiFi or something. But it seems it hit an error before I even had a chance to do it.

I did the manual install instead and was able to configure that with WiFi from the start, but not sure how I would be able to do that from the downloadable image?

I guess upon reading more at this page https://github.com/Screenly/Anthias/blob/master/docs/wifi-setup.md it sounds like I must have to boot with it wired the first time. Is that the expectation? If so, perhaps I will suggest some edits to the docs with a pull request.

Thank you!

@dougbot01, the Wi-Fi setup is not operational at the moment. In the meantime, you can set it up via a wired connection.
